چکیده

In arid and semi-arid environments, desert vegetation plays an important role in preventing soil erosion by wind helps maintain the stability of oasis ecosystems. Four types typical vegetation, namely Populus euphratica, Haloxylon ammodendron, Nitraria sibirica, Halostachs caspica, corresponding to different habitats (i.e., river bank, sand dune, desert, salt marsh) were chosen as model this research. The δ2H δ18O for rainwater, water, plant water applied identify sources quantify proportions used over entire growth period (from March October). results showed that precipitation Ebinur Lake basin varied from −142.5‰ −0.6‰ −20.16‰ 1.20‰, respectively. largest values occurred summer smallest winter. four decreased gradually with increasing depth. extracted stems plants had similar variation trends, is, maximum was observed spring minimum summer. Among plants, H. caspica highest stable isotopic stem followed N. P. euphratica. utilization ratios across stages. Throughout growing period, ammodendron mainly groundwater, whereas source sibirica greatly throughout season. spring, relied on surface a contribution rate 80%–94%. However, summer, proportion deep 31%–36%; autumn, middle 33%–36%. topsoil layer slightly increased 20%–36% euphratica intermediate 53%–54%. groundwater main source, 72%–88%, only 2%–5% came rose 11%–21%. indicated there significant differences use during areas. This research provides theoretical basis understanding mechanisms, adaptation strategies, restoration management

Mid-Holocene vegetation and climate in Lake Chad Basin

This discussion paper is/has been under review for the journal Climate of the Past (CP). Please refer to the corresponding final paper in CP if available. Abstract Located at the transition between the Saharian and Sahelian zones, at the center of one of the largest endoreic basins, the Lake Chad is ideally located to record regional environmental changes that occurred in the past. However, unt...

Nonlinear spectral mixture effects for photosynthetic/non-photosynthetic vegetation cover estimates of typical desert vegetation in western China

Desert vegetation plays significant roles in securing the ecological integrity of oasis ecosystems in western China. Timely monitoring of photosynthetic/non-photosynthetic desert vegetation cover is necessary to guide management practices on land desertification and research into the mechanisms driving vegetation recession. In this study, nonlinear spectral mixture effects for photosynthetic/no...

AutoCalibration of Integrated Lake Water Quality Models for the Lake Winnipeg Basin Initiative

Machine learning (ML) and genetic algorithm (GA) are well known techniques which can be used to calibrate environmental models. This paper investigates the calibration of the 2-D horizontal, vertically mixed lake models OneLay and PolTra using ML and GA routines. A GA was used jointly with the Open Modelling Interface (OpenMI) wrapper approach on a single powerful server. Explicit and implicit ...

The Study of Effect of Vegetation Cover Factor on the Water Erosion Case Study: Razin Basin

One of the important parameters, that reduce negative influence of the other known parameters, is cover vegetation. In this study were estimated cover vegetation influence in soil erosion of Razin basin in Kermanshah province that is our study area. The first step is preparation map of NDVI obtained & category of cover vegetation by the Landsat TM data. Then Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation...

Holocene vegetation and climate history at Hurleg Lake in the Qaidam Basin, northwest China

We present fossil pollen data and discuss their climatic interpretations from a 688-cm-long sediment core from Hurleg Lake, a freshwater lake located in the Qaidam Basin on the NE Tibetan Plateau, just beyond the northern limit of the East Asian summer monsoon influence. The reconstruction of the Holocene vegetation and climate history was aided by modern surface pollen analysis. The 14000-yr c...
